About

Thanks for visiting my website! I am a Chicago-based bassist + educator. I have spent my professional life performing in symphony halls, clubs, and theaters. I began to teach in the Chicago area while attending DePaul University and have maintained a studio ever since. For eight years (2012-2020) I was the instructor of double bass and bass guitar at Illinois Wesleyan University. Find out more about my teaching.

My story is not unlike many other bassists, I was drawn to the sound and function of the bass in the context of an ensemble. The first recordings I fell in love with were Green Day’s Dookie, Marcus Miller’s Live & More, and Edgar Meyer, Mark O’Connor, and Yo-Yo Ma’s Appalachia Waltz.

In my early years, I heard long tones from my Mom’s french horn lessons and I observed my Dad grading music theory tests and composing music for an array of ensembles. There was always music playing at home, Jobim, Tower of Power, Beethoven, Debussy, and the Ray Brown Trio.

I spent four years at West Virginia University studying with Andrew Kohn and then moved to Chicago to study with Rob Kassinger at DePaul University. While attending DePaul, I performed for a season with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Currently, my main gig is playing double bass and electric bass at The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, IL, a northwest suburb of Chicago. For my theatre credits please visit my credits page.

I am a co-writer and bassist for my alternative rock project Molehill. We perform throughout the country.  Check out this feature on Molehill by Rick Kogan of the Chicago Tribune.  We have released one LP, three EPs, and two singles. In 2019 we released an EP produced by Justin Gerrish titled Hostage.

As an orchestral bassist, I have performed with the Elgin Symphony, Rockford Symphony, Lancaster Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and more. In 2004, I performed as part of the Red Bull Artsehcro. We premiered Raul Yanez’s Concerto for Turntable and Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.
